| Week 3 vs. Georgia Force | ||||
This game is what Arena football is all about. It was a close game back and forth until the end. Arena is all about offense and high scoring. We played this game at home so it was nice to see such a great game in person. The game came down to the last possession and every single second counts because the field is so short you can score at any time. One of the main goals at the end of the game is for the offense to leave no time on the clock for the other team to have a chance to score. In the NFL, if you can score with 30 seconds left that is usually enough time for your defense to hold off the opposing offense. However, in the AFL 30 seconds is way too much time. When it came down to the end of the game the Georgia Force executed this perfectly. They scored with no time left at all and came to within one point trailing 61-60. Now common football sense would tell you to kick the extra point and send it into overtime. However, when you are on the road and played a hard game you might be tempted to go for two and that is what the Force did. Everyone was on their feet at the arena. The QB dropped back to pass and had a wide open receiver in the endzone, but there was a little bit of pressure from our defensive line and their QB threw it over the open receiver and out of bounds. We won 61-60 in probably the best game we will be in all year. I'm getting better mentally when I watch our team play. Our QB Shane Stafford is really a disciplined QB. I can see where if I was in his situation I would take some more shots down the field and hit the big play, but he won't take too many chances and take the higher percentage throw. It was an exciting game and I think the fans really enjoyed it. That should help our attendance down the road. |
