Week 10
August 9 - August 15

This week was a slow week, as far as writing on the website goes.  Thomas
went back home 9 hours north for the week for a little vacation.  So we mainly
just hung out around the city.

However, on Monday we went with Kimi to Helsinki to watch the Roosters
play the Butchers.  It turns out that we already know the playoff pairings and
we will play the Butchers in the first round and then the winner of the Roosters
Crocodiles in the finals.  So we were basically scouting both teams.  Plus we
got to see the stadium that we will play in for the final in Helsinki.  Its called the
"Velodrome," well because it is a velodrome.  That is one of those oval bike
tracks that have high banks so you can ride really fast while still making sharp
turns.  Its weird but I'm sure you will see some pics in a few weeks.

While we were in Helsinki we stopped at Olympic stadium.  Helsinki hosted the
1952 Summer Olympics.  It was pretty cool looking but not as big as stadiums
in the U.S.  Kimi said it was the biggest stadium in Finland.   I have pictures of
it posted below.

The rest of the week was filled with lifting and Madden.  Oh yeah, the
Olympics is on now, so that is our new obsession.  Over here they show some
events that they would never show in the U.S., like handball, women's
weighlifting, kayaking, and judo.  We get 3 different channels that show the
Olympics and most of them are showing different events.  We have been
watching that a lot lately.  However, all the channels are not in English except
for 1 about 10% of the time.  So we watch the games but can understand no
commentary.

This week, we are supposed to go with Leo, one of our defensive lineman, to
shoot some pistols and the shooting range.  He works for the Finnish army so
its legal.  This will be interesting since I've never shot a gun before and I've
been watching the pistol shooting competition in the Olympics.  So I will keep
you posted about that next week.

This week we play our last regular season game against the Jaguars, who we
have already played this year.  We beat them 37-14, but I heard rumors that
they sent their American running back home because they are eliminated from
the playoffs so there is no reason to keep him around.  If that is true, they
won't have much of an offense left.  He was their main threat.  After this week,
we start the playoffs which will be pretty exciting.  I already mentioned that we
will play the Butchers, who gave us a good game the last time we played them,
but looked pretty bad when they played the Roosters on Monday.

Also, thanks to everyone that has signed the guestbook!!!  I enjoy reading them
all.

I finally took a picture of our
rooms.  This is our "storage
room" where we put most of
our stuff.  This is supposed to
be a whole apartment by the
way.  Its 7 ft. wide.
This is the other room.  You can
see it is bigger.  We put both our
beds in here.  It also has a T.V.
and computer.  You can see the
controllers are ready for
Madden at all times.  We put
that blanket over the window to
block the light so we can get
some sleep because it gets so
bright in the morning.
