| Semifinal versus Butchers | ||||||||||||
| August 29 Well we got by with another win. I'm hoping that all these close games will help us in the final against the Roosters. The Roosters beat the Crocs on Saturday so we play the Roosters in the final. Last time we beat the Roosters 22-13, but if we played the way we did today we will lose. Now to our game... The field was muddy, partly because it rained all week long and partly because they played a dumb soccer game on it the day before. So that didn't help matters from either team. It was also a windy day about 60 degrees, and wind is never good for a passing game. You can tell that the intensity level was up for both teams, since it was the semifinal game. We went to the Roosters Crocodiles game on Saturday and I didn't see as much intensity in either team as I saw today. The Butchers are a team that for some reason give us some trouble. The other top teams can defeat them easily, but we have trouble. Our defense held on the first drive of the game for the Butchers. On offense, we tried to run the ball a lot on the first drive but nothing was doing. Their defensive ends were the best we've seen all year so I was running alot up the middle and scrambling from side to side. The blitz wasn't hurting us that bad but the defensive ends were giving us trouble. We eventually scored on a short run, to go up 8-0 after scoring the 2 point conversion. Their only score in the first half was late in the second quarter just before halftime and they scored the two point conversion as well. At halftime the score was tied 8-8 and we weren't happy at all. It just wasn't the same team that has been playing with us all year. I don't know what the problem was if we were too tired or what, we just weren't playing that great. In the second half, it got a little better but not much. JP got a huge interception inside their 10 yard line. We eventually scored, when I hit Juha on a deep post that went for 73 yards. We missed the 2 point conversion, so we were up 14-8. This is the drive, I think, when JP got his second interception of the game on the 8 yard line. We drove down to about the 25 yardline and ran into trouble. We were facing a 4th and 15 from about the 30. On that play I hit Juha again in the endzone on an amazing throw and catch. I threw it right to the back of the endzone and he made a diving catch barely in bounds in the back of the endzone. Scott caught the two point conversion and we were up 22-8 (and this was in the 4th quarter). They responded by passing their way down the field and eventually scored on a quick slant on the goaline. The American receiver for the Butchers caught it. They kicked the extra point so we are now up 22-15 with 1:23 seconds left in the game. They tried an onside kick, but Scott recovered. So the final score was Trojans 22 Butchers 15. I was 16 for 28 for 240 yards 2 TDs, no int's, and 36 rushing yards The refs had some more weird calls in this game, but I won't elaborate on them this time. The call of the game came when Scott made a tackle for loss. The announcer comes on and says, "(words in finnish and then) Scott Austin Powers." It was pretty funny if you were there, I promise. This entry is a little short because I don't think we played that well this game and need to work on our attitude and concentration for the Final next Saturday. |
