On Saturday I went down to Louisville, Kentucky to tryout for the
Louisville Fire. There were about 50 guys trying out. Most of the
guys were from the local area because it was just an open tryout that
anyone could attend. The team I was trying out for is the Louisville
Fire and they are in the Arena 2 League.
I was one of 3 QBs there. One of the other QBs was from California
trying out. The other QB was going out for both QB and WR and I
don't think he played a day of college football in his life. I think he
was from a flag football team and wanted to tryout.
One of the Louisville Fire coaches had invited me down to the tryout,
because he had seen me play in college. He is also a coach for
Anderson University who is in our conference in college.
Since the coach already knew me and had seen me play he didn't need
me to run the 40 or do any of the other drills, he just wanted to see me
throw again. Even though the turf was wet from it raining the entire
day before the tryout, the balls stayed pretty dry.
The main part of the tryout was the one on one drills. The tryout was
for QBs, WRs, DBs, and some RBs. So the WR would run routes
while the DB would try to cover them. Since this is an open tryout
everyone wanted to show off their speed so most of the receivers were
running deeper routes. Luckily I'm pretty good at throwing deeper
routes. So I got a chance to show to the rest of the coaches that I
could throw the ball pretty far and still have some accuracy with my
throws.
Overall the tryout went really well. I was clearly the best QB there and
the coach said that I did very good. At the end of the tryout they
brought everyone together and announced that they would call the
people they liked and wanted to invite them to another private
workout in January or February. They said that the private tryout
would actually be a workout with the team, just like a mini camp in
the NFL. Then after 2 days of practicing with the team they would
decide if they wanted to keep you or not.
So I'm expecting a call, but they didn't give a time frame on when you
would get the call though. As of right now there is another team
looking at me, but I just had to send in film for that team. I guess it
is still pretty early to be getting teams together. Most teams in this
league get together in March and the games start in April and runs
through August.
So I'll keep you posted with all this stuff. Here are some pics that they
put up on their website from the tryouts. Later.

I didn't throw that but you
