| Game 8 at Dayton Warbirds | ||||||
| Well we played a lot better this game, however it was the same result: a 56-53 loss in overtime. We had plenty of chances to win the game. The two obvious ones are a missed FG in regulation that would have won it and a dropped interception in overtime. However, I don't blame the loss on those two guys, it was a collective effort. If I had hit Deans in the endzone halfway through the 3rd quarter, we would have won as well. So there were many things we could have done differently to win the game. For some reason, I'm not as upset with our team or my play because we had plenty of chances to win. Plus, I played a lot better in this game with 4 TDs and 0 ints, though I'm still disappointed with the loss. However, I think we were in a great place to win the game at the end. (In fact, we were leading the whole second half). Maybe we played it a little too conservative at the end just laying up for the FG instead of going for the TD. The word conservative and indoor football do not mix. Here's the story... we were leading heading into the second half and it was pretty much scoring going back and forth. We got the ball back with 56 seconds left to go. We marched down to about the 15-yard line and they had wasted all of their timeouts. We had about 15 seconds left to go. Our offensive coordinator wanted to take a shot at the endzone, but our head coach overruled him and wanted to run the ball and then call timeout to kick a FG. So we ran a draw and that wasn't a good idea because we got tackled for a 5-yard loss. Then we called timeout with 3 seconds left to set up the would-be winning FG. It sailed just right of the goal posts. Into overtime we go. It is just like college, so both teams get a chance to score from the 25 yard line. Dayton won the toss so they wanted us to play offense first. On the first play of overtime I threw one into the endzone to Deans it hit off his hands and fell into another one of our WR's hands Samuels for a TD, but they said that the ball hit the wall first before he caught it, so they ruled it incomplete. Anyway, we ended up getting a FG out of the drive. Then on the first play of the Dayton possession they went deep as well, but our DB had perfect coverage and put himself in great position for an interception, but it went right through his hands, which would've gave us the win. Then Dayton ended up scoring later on in the drive on a screen pass to Maurice Lee. Dayton's QB Bellasari completed 19 passes and 15 of them were to Maurice Lee, I think he had 4 TDs. Anyway, on a side note, WR Dan Fry caught his first and second indoor TDs during the game. This week we play the Fayetteville Guard, who we beat at home in week 3. Since then, they got a new coach who is 3-2 as the head coach. They also just beat the first place team in our division River City, who is now 7-2. Fayetteville currently stands at 3-6, while we are at 4-4. It should be a good game and even though we beat them at home last time. It's always a different story when you play on the road. Most of the time, it's an adventure, especially if you play for the Marshals. Sorry it took me a while to update, it's just harder to update when we lose, because I don't have good news to report, so I'm not in a good mood. |
